Certified Nurse Midwife

Responsibilities

• Provide care that focuses on pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, care of the newborn, and family planning and gynecological needs of the woman.
• Practice under the supervision of one or more collaborating physicians.
• Refer patients who develop complications requiring physician care to an obstetrician.
• Provide uncomplicated prenatal care within the scope of the Nurse Midwife.
• Provide intrapartum care on patients who meet the criteria for normal delivery.
• Pitocin augmentation or induction under the direction and approval of the supervising physician or alternate.
• Use internal and external monitors.
• Perform active rupture of membranes without consultation only if patient is in active labor, 3 cm dilation,
  -1 station, and at least 80% effaced.
• Provide local analgesia/anesthesia including pudendal block.
• Consult physician when deviations from normal rise.
• Provide normal postpartum care.
• Provide normal newborn care in the delivery room and/or recovery room only.
• Repair superficial vaginal and perineal lacerations.
• Comply with all policies and procedures of OB/GYN department and all rules and policies of hospital in Labor and Delivery Nurse Midwifes.
• Document according to L&D policy in progress notes and L&D record.

• Master's Degree:
  Nursing (Required)
• C-EFM – Certified – Electronic Fetal Monitoring – National Certification Corporation (NCC)
• CNM – Certified Nurse Midwife – American Midwifery Certification Board
• RN – Registered Nurse – Ohio Board of Nursing
• Licensed by the State of Ohio as a registered nurse
• Certified by the American College of Nurse Midwifery
• Graduate of a college for nurse midwives that is in good standing as determined by the Board at the time of graduation.
