What You’ll Do- Maintain control of the institution to provide safety and security of the facility, inmates, staff, and general public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas of the facility/institution.
- Ensure the assigned area is clean, safe, and secure.
- Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers.
- Operate automotive vehicles in perimeter security and the transportation of inmates.
- Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.
- Complete required reports and serve on committees.
- Prevent escapes or incidents that threaten security.
- When necessary, use physical force, unarmed self‑defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates.
- Receive initial pay at step 1 ($24.16) and move to step 2 ($24.86) after six months of employment.
- Earn an additional $0.60 per hour when working 2nd or 3rd shift.
- Meet the following qualifications: high school diploma or G.E.D.; valid driver’s license for transportation positions; commercial driver’s license if required for commercial vehicles; successful completion of the correction officer assessment within the past 24 months or current employment with Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction and prior certification as correction officer. Probationary period is 365 days.
