* This is a shared position between Marion Technical College and The Ohio State University, Marion. Part-time, 12-month, 20 hour per week position – must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Hours will typically be M-F early morning or early evening.
POSITION SUMMARYThe Campus Safety Officer is an unarmed, customer service-focused member of the Department of Public Safety responsible for helping maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This cost-shared position supports both Marion Technical College and The Ohio State University king under the direct supervision of the Public Safety Supervisor (Sergeant, Ohio State University Police Division), the Campus Safety Officer supports campus safety operations through patrol, building security, customer service, emergency response, and enforcement of institutional policies.
The position operates within established departmental policies and the chain of command.
- Campus Patrol:
Conduct routine foot and vehicle patrols of campus buildings, grounds, and parking lots. Maintain a visible presence to promote safety and deter criminal activity, policy violations, and unsafe behavior. Identify, document, and report suspicious activity, criminal activity, safety hazards, and maintenance concerns. Ensure campus facilities remain secure. - Policy Enforcement:
Enforce applicable college and university policies and regulations in a fair, consistent, and professional manner. Address policy violations through education, documentation, referral, and other appropriate actions within the scope of the Campus Safety Officer position. Notify and coordinate with law enforcement, fire, or EMS as appropriate. - Building Security:
Lock and unlock campus buildings according to established schedules. Secure doors, windows, gates, classrooms, and other facilities. Respond to reports of unsecured buildings or facilities. Perform routine building security inspections. - Emergency Response:
Respond to medical emergencies, fire alarms, burglar alarms, weather emergencies, and other incidents. Provide basic first aid, CPR, and AED assistance when certified and appropriate. Request assistance from law enforcement, fire, or EMS as needed. Assist with evacuations and emergency operations. - Customer Service:
Provide courteous assistance to students, employees, visitors, and guests. Provide directions, general information, and other assistance to campus visitors. Conduct safety escorts. Assist with vehicle lockouts and other approved services. Foster positive relationships with the campus community. - Incident Documentation:
Complete accurate, detailed, and timely reports. Document incidents, accidents, suspicious activity, property damage, safety concerns, and policy violations. Maintain departmental records using approved reporting systems. - Traffic and Event Support:
Assist with traffic control. Assist with parking management. Support special events and campus activities. - Collaboration:
Foster positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and administrators at both Marion Technical College and The Ohio State University rdinate with local police, fire, and EMS when appropriate. Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and campus partners while following departmental policies, procedures, and supervisory direction.
Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, being at least 18 years of age, and holding a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Candidates must successfully pass…
