Maintenance Engineer / Field Service Technician
This role focuses on the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex cold, warm, and hot forging presses and related equipment used in industries such as automotive, aircraft, medical, and bridge construction. You coordinate projects, attend customer and vendor meetings, and provide high-quality field service at customer plants, ensuring machinery operates safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Responsibilities- Install, commission, and set up forging presses and related equipment at customer facilities accurately and efficiently.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and low-voltage systems on forging machinery to quickly identify root causes of issues.
- Repair forging machines and related equipment with a strong focus on safety, quality, and long-term reliability.
- Perform thorough preventive maintenance on machinery, including cleaning parts and adjacent areas, and document findings in detailed reports within established timelines.
- Make modifications and minor redesigns to machines and accessory components as needed to improve performance and reliability, following established approval processes.
- Assemble and disassemble machinery and components precisely, using accurate measurements and referring to machine drawings and schematics at all times.
- Read, interpret, and use mechanical and electrical blueprints, assembly drawings, and parts diagrams to guide work in the shop and at customer sites.
- Follow established tool procedures, maintain lockout/tagout locks, and adhere strictly to all safety protocols when working inside machines and performing repairs.
- Send, receive, and analyze customer interview sheets to understand equipment history, usage, and issues, and use this information to plan maintenance and service activities.
- Coordinate closely with Sales and Office staff regarding ongoing projects, scheduling, customer needs, and service priorities.
- Obtain approval from the Field Service Supervisor for all purchases related to parts, tools, and project requirements.
- Ensure necessary parts, tools, and documentation are prepared and ready prior to each project, including travel arrangements and field service reports.
- Check and account for all tools before leaving customer sites, and organize tools upon returning to the shop to maintain proper inventory and readiness.
- Accurately pull and highlight assembly and parts drawings, noting items that are quoted or may need replacement, and maintain precise measurement figures during all work.
- Complete assigned projects thoroughly, on time, and to a high standard of quality, ensuring customer satisfaction and machine reliability.
- Refer to machine drawings consistently when working in the shop, at job sites, or when discussing issues with customers, and report status and concerns to supervisors.
- Follow up with customers after service work to confirm performance, address any concerns, and document results and feedback.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with customers, vendors, and internal teams, providing clear updates, explanations, and recommendations.
- Participate in team-oriented in-house work, including planning, documentation, and coordination of upcoming installations and service visits.
- Maintain a high level of customer service and satisfaction through responsive support, clear communication, and reliable technical expertise.
- 2–3 years of experience in mechanical or electrical work, preferably on industrial machinery or heavy equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work on complex mechanical systems.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and low-voltage electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints, schematics, and assembly drawings.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and standard maintenance equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to perform installation, maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance on industrial machinery.
- High level of customer service orientation with experience interacting directly with customers at their facilities.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with field service, sales, and office staff.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to approximately 70% during the week or month, with current travel needs up to about 80% due to demand.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills in field service environments.
- Capability to follow and enforce safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, and adhere to established tool and work processes.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with customers and documenting service activities.
- Organizational skills to plan projects, prepare tools and parts, and complete reports within required time frames.
