The Opportunity
The VP, National Broker Distribution leads the National broker strategy to drive profitable growth, strengthen relationships with major brokers and ensure alignment across business units and distribution objectives. Major brokers include those with multi provincial reach – placing greater than $1.5Bn of premium in the Canadian market.
The role delivers consistent, high‑quality relationship experiences with key National Brokers while partnering with the SVP, Regional Broker Distribution to ensure national priorities are executed across the regions and drives profitable growth. This leader also identifies emerging issues and develops innovative distribution solutions, with a strong focus on growth, profitability, and broker satisfaction.
What you’ll do
Provide strategic leadership to design and execute a national business development strategy for broker distribution
Build and facilitate strong executive level relationships with key National Brokers – both personally and facilitate this more broadly.
Partner with Aviva business line Managing Director’s to ensure Aviva presents clear strategies and value propositions attractive to National Brokers in aggregate and individually.
Build business plans specific to, and in partnership with, each brokerage – driving performance and accountability both internally and with the partner.
Ensure those plans are fully communicated to all stakeholders – with particular emphasis on aligning Aviva underwriting and service delivery teams.
Lead remuneration negotiations designed to support long term performance objectives and strategic alignment.
Ensure profitable growth, strong National account performance, and delivery against enterprise objectives and commitments
Set national sales and profitability targets aligned with BU targets for the broker channel
Oversee performance management systems, ensuring results are tracked, analyzed, reported, and delivered consistently across regions
Strengthen Aviva’s position with top‑tier brokers by delivering exceptional service, resolving complex issues, and deepening strategic relationships, while understanding and influencing National broker strategies and ensuring alignment between national and regional plans
Champion the National Broker relationships articulating Aviva’s differentiated value proposition through advanced product and market expertise
Lead, coach, and develop high‑performing National account and business development teams
Ensure talent continuity, succession planning, and training
Foster strong collaboration with Personal & Commercial Underwriting and Product leadership, Marketing, and Claims to drive unified execution in the broker channel
Ensure regulatory principles, compliance practices, and ethical standards are embedded in all broker distribution activities
Provide informed risk assessments grounded in industry expertise, and ensure marketing, communications, and national account initiatives align with corporate guidelines, brand standards, and budget
