Job Overview
Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance, the Senior Manager, Financial Reporting supports all elements of the accounting function including but not limited to IFRS analysis, journal entries, systems integration, month‑end close, reconciliations, variance analysis, and accurate financial reporting. The role also contributes to compliance and regulatory requirements as needed.
The successful candidate will bring critical thinking, attention to detail, and a strong drive to learn while supporting our culture of care across Canada.
This position will be based at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario. Extendicare offers a hybrid working environment.
Key Responsibilities- Manage general ledger accounts and prepare monthly/annual financial reports.
- Assist with integrating financial enterprise systems by working cross functionally across multiple different finance functions.
- Own the month‑end close process for balance sheet and P&L accounts.
- Prepare, maintain, and reconcile complex accounts.
- Prepare and present budget‑to‑actual and variance analysis to support business decisions.
- Support preparation of budgets and forecasts.
- Drive finance process improvements through problem‑solving and fresh perspective.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and other finance team members to support the accounting and reporting process.
- Prepare documentation to support compliance and regulatory reporting.
- Manage auditor requests and submissions to external parties.
- Coach and mentor team members and ensure team is developing and working towards team objectives.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Leverage financial, business, and accounting knowledge to drive process improvements and create efficiencies.
- Manage internal and external auditors’ requests where required and as directed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- 5+ years of accounting/finance experience.
- CPA designation completed.
- Public company experience preferred and knowledge of IFRS preferred.
- Experience in people management.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Experience in identifying, investigating, analyzing, and reporting variances.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
