Our client is one of the world's leading manufacturers of electrical test and measurement equipment. For more than 130 years, the company has designed and manufactured industry-leading solutions used by utilities, industrial facilities, electrical contractors, and infrastructure organizations worldwide. Their products help customers safely test, diagnose, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical power systems ranging from low-voltage installations to high-voltage transmission networks.

We are seeking a Technical Services Manager to lead our Canadian Technical Services operation based in the Greater Toronto Area.

This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for the overall performance of the technical service organization, including the calibration laboratory, repair operations, rental and demonstration equipment, inventory management, and a team of 8-10 skilled technicians. Working closely with Sales, Commercial Operations, and North American leadership, you will drive customer satisfaction while improving operational efficiency, turnaround time, quality, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities Technical Service Leadership
  • Lead, coach, develop, and mentor a team of technical service and calibration professionals.
  • Establish departmental goals, KPIs, and operational priorities.
  • Conduct performance reviews, succession planning, hiring, and employee development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, customer service, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the calibration and repair laboratory.
  • Prioritize incoming repairs and calibration work to achieve customer commitments.
  • Oversee repair quality, turnaround times, and department productivity.
  • Manage rental and demonstration equipment, including refurbishment, inventory, and readiness.
Customer & Commercial Support
  • Partner closely with the sales organization to support customer requirements and future business opportunities.
  • Manage strategic customer service relationships and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Review repair quotations and service recommendations.
  • Analyze repair trends and recommend product or process improvements.
Operational Excellence
  • Standardize workflows and improve department efficiency.
  • Manage inventory, purchasing, spare parts, tooling, and supplier relationships.
  • Utilize SAP and CRM systems to monitor department performance and provide management reporting.
  • Support budgeting and departmental planning.
Quality & Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 quality systems.
  • Review and approve calibration certificates.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Ensure all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements are met.
Qualifications
  • Engineering degree or equivalent technical education and industry experience.
  • 5+ years managing a technical service organization, repair depot, calibration laboratory, or field service operation.
  • Experience supporting electrical, electronic, industrial, instrumentation, automation, or test & measurement equipment.
  • Proven success leading, coaching, and developing technical teams.
  • Strong understanding of calibration, repair operations, quality systems, and customer service.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and CRM software.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001; ISO 17025 experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced technical environment.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally within North America and internationally.
