Job Description & How to Apply Below

PL Energy Services is a commercial mechanical and electrical contractor serving clients across Ontario. Our technicians work on a wide range of commercial HVAC, refrigeration, gas, controls, and mechanical systems.

This is not a position where you will spend every day changing filters or working on the same equipment.

One week may involve diagnosing rooftop units, servicing boilers, completing preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting controls. The next may include equipment replacements, heat pump installations, refrigeration repairs, commissioning, gas piping, or retrofit work.

We are looking for an experienced technician who enjoys solving problems, takes pride in quality workmanship, and wants to build a long-term career with a growing commercial contractor.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC Service Technician who holds both a valid Ontario 313A Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic Licence and a valid G1 Gas Technician Licence.

The successful candidate will perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, equipment replacements, installations, startups, and commissioning across commercial facilities.

This role requires strong mechanical, refrigeration, electrical, gas, and controls troubleshooting skills. The right candidate will be able to work independently, communicate professionally with customers, and take responsibility for completing work safely and correctly.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair commercial HVAC, refrigeration, gas, electrical, and control system problems
  • Perform preventative maintenance and identify deficiencies before they result in larger failures
  • Complete emergency and scheduled service calls
  • Install and replace commercial HVAC equipment
  • Complete equipment startups, testing, and commissioning
  • Troubleshoot electrical components, control wiring, sensors, relays, contractors, and motors
  • Service gas-fired appliances and complete gas piping work
  • Perform refrigeration repairs, pressure testing, evacuation, charging, and system verification
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, control diagrams, and manufacturer documentation
  • Clearly explain findings and recommendations to customers
  • Complete accurate and professional service reports
  • Coordinate with office staff, project managers, technicians, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
  • Take responsibility for the quality and completion of assigned work
What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a technician who:

  • Enjoys troubleshooting and finding the actual cause of a problem
  • Think[s] through the system before replacing parts
  • Can work independently without constant supervision
  • Takes ownership of assigned work
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with customers
  • Is honest about mistakes, corrects them, and learns from them
  • Remains calm and solution-focused when a job does not go as planned
  • Arrives prepared, organized, and ready to work safely
  • Treats customers, coworkers, and subcontractors with respect
  • Supports other technicians when assistance is needed
  • Takes initiative and follows through on responsibilities
  • Wants to continue learning and improving
  • Is interested in stable, long-term employment
  • Takes pride in completing work properly rather than rushing or cutting corners
Required Licences and Qualifications

The following qualifications are mandatory:

  • Valid Ontario 313A Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic Licence
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence with a clean driving record
  • Commercial HVAC troubleshooting and service experience
  • Ability to work independently
  • Safety-first approach and professional work habits

Applicants who do not currently hold both the Ontario 313A and G1 licences will not be considered for this position.
