The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is recruiting for an Office Assistant position in the District Operations Division within the Bureau of Central Services located in Marlborough, CT.

Position Highlights
  • Full‑time position, first shift Monday‑Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, hybrid schedule available.
  • Provide office management for the Eastern District and assist the public counter with Hunting and Fishing License sales, state park pass issuance, boating certificates, youth and backpack camping applications, and general inquiries.
  • Administrative support for EDHQ and East District staff; maintain inventory, order supplies, process purchasing requisitions.
  • Review Purchasing Card charges, prepare adjustment forms, track expenditures for Agency Projects.
  • Answer multiple phone lines, dispense general information, coordinate conference room reservations, maintain vehicle and facility data in DEEP’s Asset Management System, DRIVE.

Example Duties
  • Typing: Type materials; enter and retrieve data on computers, tablets, and electronic equipment.
  • Filing: Set up and maintain office procedures, filing and indexing systems.
  • Correspondence: Compose routine correspondence.
  • Report Writing: Compile and generate technical, statistical, or financial reports requiring judgment.
  • Interpersonal: Provide general information to citizens, respond to inquiries, apply policies, lead lower‑level employees.
  • Processing: Maintain calendars, process documents, exercise discretion, handle purchase requisitions, prepare payment lists, reconcile shipments, maintain inventory, use electronic equipment.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skill and Ability
  • Knowledge of office systems, telephone usage, and filing.
  • Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Arithmetic computation ability.
  • Ability to perform full range of clerical tasks, operate office equipment, use office software, schedule and prioritize workflow, read and interpret complex instructions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of general clerical work experience.
  • College training may substitute for experience: fifteen (15) semester hours ≈ ½ year, maximum two (2) years.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience organizing, managing, and processing electronic files and databases.
  • Experience scanning and uploading documents.
  • Experience selling licenses, permits, and passes, including use of Aspira Point of Sale software.
  • Experience running a Front Office and assisting staff and the public.
  • Experience shifting priorities and time management.
  • Experience working independently and in a team environment.
