Collections Specialist

Description We are looking for a Collections Specialist to support a Contract assignment with a growing organization in the waste and environmental services industry in Marlboro, Massachusetts. This role focuses on managing commercial accounts, following up on outstanding balances, and helping maintain healthy cash flow through attentive customer interactions. The ideal candidate brings strong billing and collections experience, sound judgment in resolving payment issues, and solid Excel skills for tracking account activity and reporting.

Responsibilities:

- Manage a portfolio of commercial accounts and conduct timely outreach regarding past-due invoices.

- Investigate account discrepancies by reviewing billing details, payment history, and supporting documentation.

- Work directly with customers to address disputes, clarify charges, and secure appropriate payment resolutions.

- Record collection activity accurately and maintain up-to-date account notes, aging details, and follow-up schedules.

- Partner with internal teams to reconcile billing issues and resolve obstacles that delay payment.

- Prepare and update spreadsheets and reports in Microsoft Excel to monitor account status and collection progress.

- Escalate high-risk or severely delinquent accounts when necessary while maintaining a positive customer experience. Requirements - Experience handling commercial collections and receivables follow-up in a business-to-business environment.

- Working knowledge of billing processes, account reconciliation, and dispute resolution.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to organize and track account data efficiently.

- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate professionally in challenging payment situations.

- Ability to prioritize a high volume of accounts and manage deadlines with limited supervision.

- Careful attention to detail and accuracy when documenting account activity and payment information.

- Effective problem-solving skills and confidence working across teams to resolve outstanding issues.
