Back Collections Assistant
Collections Marlborough , Massachusetts Temp Per Hour Aug 31, 2026 $ 20.00 - $21.50 Collections Administrative Assistant – Temporary Contract
Location: Marlborough, MA
Schedule: Hybrid, minimum 5 days per month onsite, though additional onsite days may be required
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Pay: $20.00–$ 21.50 /hour
Assignment Length: 4–6 months, temporary only; will not convert to permanent
Responsibilities include:
- Receive, document, sort, and distribute incoming mail and correspondence via mail, email, fax, and other channels
- Collect and process outgoing mail in a timely manner
- Assist the Collections Department by answering calls, fielding inquiries, and supporting internal and external members as needed
- Process payments for delinquent, bankrupt, CCCS, charged-off, and other accounts handled by the Collections Department
- Assist with processing charge-offs on accounts
- Generate department letters, including loss policy letters, Right to Cure letters, voluntary surrender letters, and related correspondence
- Process transfer requests from collectors and/or team leaders
- Review, research, and respond to credit disputes
- Prepare invoices for management review and approval
- Assist with referrals of accounts to attorneys and collection agencies, including documentation and tracking
- Order and maintain office supplies and inventory
- Review, process, document, and track wellness and/or Amend-a-Note requests
- Gather documentation, pull loan files, credit bureau reports, file paperwork, type correspondence, and assist with mailing
- Perform general administrative and clerical duties including photocopying, scanning, faxing, emailing, and mailing
- Support the Collection Manager and Assistant Collection Manager with special projects
- Participate in cross-training with department specialists
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous administrative experience or public service experience preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point
- Ability to learn and use additional software applications as needed
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently
- Strong organization, time management, and prioritization skills
