Title of Position: Reading Teacher - Jaworek Elementary School

Work Year:  School Year

Salary: Placement on the Teacher's Salary Scale according to education and experience.

Organizational Relationship or Line of Authority: Directly responsible to the building Principal in all matters pertaining to the building. Jointly responsible to the Supervisor of Literacy K-12 and through him/her to the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning.

Statement of Duties:

• Identifies and selects students based on universal screeners, state assessments, and teacher input.
• Provides direct instruction to students in reading.
• Diagnoses reading deficiencies and prescribes a plan for remediation for identified students.
• Aligns remedial instruction with the classroom ELA program and integrated services where possible.
• Participates in PLCs, team evaluations, and SSTs as needed.
• Promotes students’ interest in independent reading.
• Works cooperatively with the Title I, Special Education, EL, and Administrators.
• Is responsible for instructional and other general duties as indicated by the District Principal, the Supervisor of Literacy K-12, the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designees, and policies of the Marlborough School Committee.

Qualifications:

• Licensed as a Teacher of Reading by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Massachusetts covering all grades K-5 preferred.
• SEI Endorsement on License preferred
• M.Ed. in Reading preferred.
• Bilingual (Spanish or Portuguese) Preferred
• Demonstrated classroom teaching experience.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable

Abilities:

• Technology Use – School System Database, standard Microsoft and Google products and web-based sites.
• Learning Strategies— Selecting and using instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation.
• Written and Oral Comprehension and Expression— Read and understand information in writing and listen to and understand spoken information and ideas. Able to communicate information and ideas in speaking and writing so others will understand.
• Team Player— Being respectful as part of a team and displaying constructive, collaborative behaviors.
