Job Description

Title:

Music Teacher (General Music).

Appointment contingent upon 2026‑27 budget approval.

Organizational Relationship:
Directly reports to the Principal; jointly responsible to the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning.

Statement of Duties:
Responsible for instruction and general duties as directed by the Principal, Superintendent, and School Committee.

Job Summary:

Promote learning and growth of all students through high‑quality instruction, authentic assessment, data analysis, and continuous refinement of learning objectives. Maintain high expectations, a safe learning environment, cultural proficiency, and ethical collaboration.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Teach music classes.
  • Promote school music, music activities (both curricular and extracurricular) for students, staff, and parents.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of music pedagogy and engage students in learning experiences that enable them to acquire complex knowledge and skills.
  • Provide differentiated learning experiences to support all students toward meeting intended outcomes.
  • Design units of instruction with measurable outcomes and challenging tasks that require higher‑order thinking.
  • Design and administer informal and formal assessments, including common interim assessments, to measure each student’s learning, growth, and progress toward state/local standards.
  • Organize and analyze assessment results, adjust practice, and implement differentiated interventions and enhancements for all students, including those with disabilities and English learners.
  • Provide descriptive feedback and engage students and families in constructive conversation focused on improvement.
  • Define high expectations for student work quality and perseverance.
  • Use instructional practices that motivate and engage students during lessons.
  • Develop and maintain an environment conducive to effective learning within district resources.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with location and student needs.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Use rituals, routines, and appropriate responses to create a safe environment and prevent disruptive behaviors.
  • Use strategies that foster respect for and affirmation of student differences.
  • Share conclusions about student progress with appropriate colleagues and seek feedback on instruction or assessment practices.
  • Maintain open communication with students and parents.
  • Update parents on curriculum throughout the year and suggest strategies for supporting learning at home.
  • Engage in two‑way communication with families about student performance and respond promptly and respectfully.
  • Show understanding of and sensitivity to families’ home language, culture, and values.
  • Implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and policy.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and School Committee policy.
  • Make provisions for availability to students and parents outside instructional time as required.
  • Reflect on lesson effectiveness and use insights to improve practice and student learning.
  • Seek and apply ideas for improving practice from supervisors, colleagues, PD activities, and other resources.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relations with others.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Accept shared responsibility for co‑curricular activities as assigned.
