Student Support and Family Liaison – Part‑time (20 hours per week)

Reports to:

Executive Director

Position Overview

The Student Support and Family Liaison serves as a key member of the student support team by coordinating and managing all aspects of the Section 504 process while building strong partnerships among students, families, counselors, and teachers. This position focuses on helping students develop the skills, strategies, and self‑awareness necessary to successfully manage their area(s) of disability and fully access the academic program.

The liaison works directly with students and families to ensure appropriate accommodations and support are implemented effectively and consistently within the school environment.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Section 504 Coordination – Manage all aspects of the process in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Apply for student accommodations for College Board testing and collaborate with testing coordinators.
  • Coordinate referrals, evaluations, eligibility meetings, annual reviews, and re‑evaluations for students with 504 plans.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records and documentation related to 504 plans, using student information systems such as ESPED, ELLevation, and Powerschool.
  • Ensure accommodations are communicated clearly to teachers, counselors, and appropriate staff members.
  • Monitor implementation and effectiveness of accommodations and supports.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for families and teachers regarding 504 plans and accommodations.
Student Support and Coaching
  • Meet individually with students on 504 plans to support academic success, self‑advocacy, executive functioning, organization, time management, and coping strategies related to their disability.
  • Help students develop practical strategies to navigate academic and social‑emotional challenges.
  • Support students in understanding their accommodations and learning how to advocate for their needs appropriately.
  • Monitor student progress and collaborate with counselors and teachers to adjust support when needed.
Family Engagement and Collaboration
  • Build positive, collaborative relationships with families to support student success.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, concerns, and support strategies.
  • Understand the AMSA DCAP and create DCAP plans as needed.
  • Help families understand the 504 process, accommodations, and available school supports.
  • Partner with families, counselors, teachers, and administrators to develop coordinated support plans for students.
Collaboration with School Staff
  • Partner closely with teachers, counselors, school psychologists, and administrators to support students with accommodations and interventions.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff regarding accommodation implementation and student support strategies.
  • Participate in various support meetings and collaborate on intervention planning.
  • Assist in fostering a school environment that supports student wellness, access, and success.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree preferred in special education, counseling, psychology, social work, or related field.
  • Experience working with adolescents in a school setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Section 504 regulations and student support practices required.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with students and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with educators and support staff.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and student‑centered practices.
  • Experience with technology and strong digital literacy skills.
