Job Summary

Promote learning and growth of English Learner students by providing high‑quality instruction, authentic assessments, data‑driven instruction, continuous feedback, and refined learning objectives. Maintain instructional practices that establish high expectations, create a safe and effective learning environment, and demonstrate cultural proficiency. Partner with families, caregivers, community members, and organizations to promote learning. Maintain an ethical, culturally proficient, skilled, and collaborative professional practice.

Statement

of Duties
  • Responsible for instruction and general duties as indicated by the Principal, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, Superintendent, and district policies.
  • Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of developmental and linguistic levels of students and differentiated learning experiences.
  • Develop and implement student plans with measurable goals and objectives based on EL assessments.
  • Ensure compliance and maintain accurate student records, preparing required reports.
  • Provide instruction with measurable outcomes and challenging tasks that promote higher‑order thinking aligned to state standards and local curriculum.
  • Organize and analyze assessment results to determine progress and adjust practice; identify and implement differentiated interventions for all students, including those with disabilities.
  • Share conclusions about student progress with general education and counseling staff, seeking feedback on instructional and assessment practices.
  • Provide descriptive feedback and engage students and families in constructive conversations about improvement.
  • Define high expectations for student work and the perseverance required to produce it.
  • Develop students’ interpersonal, group, and communication skills; provide opportunities for diverse peer collaboration.
  • Anticipate and respond appropriately to conflicts arising from differences in background, language, and identity.
  • Seek and apply ideas for improving practice from supervisors, colleagues, professional development, and other resources.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on developing standards‑based units, analyzing student work, and planning interventions.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, integrity, honesty, fairness, and confidentiality.
  • Consistently fulfill professional responsibilities; be timely, reliable, and maintain regular attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Director of EL, Assistant Superintendent, or Superintendent.
Qualifications
  • Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education as a Teacher in ESL/EL covering grades K‑6.
  • SEI endorsement for appropriate grades.
  • Bilingual (Spanish or Portuguese) preferred.
  • Bachelor’s or higher earned academic degree.
  • Evidence of training in second‑language learning, standards‑based curriculum, and alternative assessment methods.
  • Familiarity with WIDA English Language Development Standards.
  • Assessment of students in/for the English Language Learner Program.
Abilities
  • Use of technology – School System database, standard Microsoft and Google products, and web‑based sites.
  • Learning strategies – selecting and using instructional methods appropriate to the situation.
  • Written and oral comprehension and expression – read, understand, and communicate information effectively.
  • Team player – respectful, constructive, and collaborative behavior.
