HEB Construction, part of the global VINCI Construction network, is a rapidly growing civil infrastructure leader delivering some of New Zealand’s most complex and community‑shaping projects. Our capabilities span roads and bridges, marine works, major transport corridors, structures, and large‑scale urban developments across the country.

We are now seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to play a pivotal leadership role in this major infrastructure development, strengthening the critical connection between the North and South Islands.

About the Role

Reporting to the Project Director, you’ll lead all engineering, design interaction, and technical development across the Contractors scope of works. You’ll drive technically robust, cost‑effective, and innovative solutions across both tender and delivery phases while ensuring strong integration between design and construction teams.

In this role you will:

• Lead design optioneering, and engineering governance from early works through delivery
• Oversee temporary works design programmes, budgets, and consultant coordination
• Provide high‑level technical guidance, constructability expertise, and escalation support for engineering challenges
• Partner with estimators, bid managers, and project leaders to ensure pricing, methodologies, and design detail align with the delivery strategy
• Support client engagement and interactives, ensuring solutions reflect procurement requirements and project outcomes
• Champion engineering excellence, technical innovation, and continuous improvement across the project team

Your work will directly influence the project’s technical success and will help shape outcomes that have long‑term value for the region and its people.

About You

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:

• 15+ years’ experience in engineering, design management, or technical leadership on complex civil or infrastructure projects
• Strong experience leading diverse technical teams across design and construction
• Proven ability to manage design budgets, programmes, and consultant relationships
• Deep understanding of design processes—including RFT, EOI, RFP, departures and Safety in Design
• A practical, solution‑focused mindset with the ability to challenge and refine engineering approaches
• Excellent communication and influencing skills across clients, consultants, and delivery teams
• A collaborative leadership style that builds trust, capability, and high performance
