SummaryRedwire Space Components, LLC has a current opportunity for a Staff, Hardware & FPGA Development Engineer located at our facility in Marlborough, MA. In this role you will be collaborating with members of the engineering and product management teams to develop space‑qualified hardware PCBs and FPGA designs for our flight cameras, navigational sensor products, and other expanded product lines. The development includes circuit design, analysis, test, qualification, design documents, and supporting the transition of products from R&D to manufacturing.
Responsibilities- Learn applicable product technology, architecture, and design requirements for space-based sensor systems
- Collaborate with the larger product team to effectively produce optimal hardware and FPGA designs for the space environment
- Analyze and document design specifications, design verification plans and reports, parts stress analysis, worst‑case analysis including radiation effects, and failure modes and effects analysis
- Work with the software team to bring up and debug PCB, FPGA, and system‑level designs. Maintain hardware throughout the development cycle
- Design and support build of any special test equipment needed including interface adapters, cables, and associated commercial test support equipment
- Conduct design verification stress testing to validate analysis and design margins. Evaluate any noncompliance’s and develop solutions to bring the product into compliance
- Develop novel system design approaches to mitigate radiation hazards to improve sensor availability or extend mission life
- Support product release cycles, including manufacturing and test
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with three or more years of relevant design experience. MSEE is a plus
- FPGA development experience, including architecting RTL designs, writing and debugging VHDL/Verilog, performing timing closure, leading FPGA bring‑up, and guiding system level integration on new hardware platforms
- Proficiency with professional engineering tools including Altium or similar PCB design suites, Git, SPICE tools, and signal‑integrity analysis
- Experience with SoC based architectures and tool chains (e.g., Xilinx Zynq / Vivado), including synthesis, constraints, simulation, and hardware/software interaction
- Experience in analog circuit design, including amplifiers, filters, ADC/DAC interfaces, power sequencing, and mixed‑signal considerations
- Hands‑on lab experience building prototypes, debugging complex hardware, and using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, and other instrumentation in both manual and automated test setups
- Experience leading designs through the full hardware development lifecycle: requirements, architecture, design, implementation, verification, documentation, and manufacturing release
- Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance
- Some limited travel may be required
- Experience mentoring junior engineers, contributing to design reviews, and providing technical leadership across cross‑functional teams
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for leading discussions, presenting technical rationale, and producing clear design documentation
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for documentation, analysis, and presentation of engineering work
- Experience with engineering analysis such as worst‑case analysis, reliability/derating, parts stress, and thermal analysis
- Experience with isolated and non‑isolated DC/DC power conversion, current/voltage monitoring, and electronic protection schemes
- Familiarity designing for radiation environments (TID, SEE, TNID) and implementing FPGA‑based mitigation techniques
- Experience with EMC design principles, MIL‑STD‑461 (RE/CE/RS/CS), and ESD‑robust circuit practices
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently, drive technical solutions, and provide guidance across projects
