Principal Electrical Engineer – Radar Analog and Power Department (US‑MA, Marlborough)

In this role, you will apply your expertise in generators, analog electronics, power electronics, and control systems to design, support, and improve critical radar and communication equipment for defense applications. You will lead engineering efforts on power generation, conversion, distribution, and control for both stationary and mobile systems ranging from 30 kW to 3 MW.

Responsibilities
  • Work with vendors to optimize generator systems based on system and customer requirements.
  • Provide support for legacy generator systems.
  • Collaborate with a team of engineers and vendors to develop designs based on system performance and operational specifications.
  • Analyze, simulate, test, and document power generation and conversion (and related analog) circuitry.
  • Advance the department’s mastery of power generation and develop best practices.
  • Resolve production and obsolescence issues related to existing generator product designs.
  • Support both in‑field and reach‑back troubleshooting, subsystem/component/benchtop repairs & regression testing.
  • Instrument and collect measurements on equipment (voltage, current, temperature) using electronic test and data acquisition equipment.
  • Present reviews of technical data to program leadership, technical staff, and customer community; manage related risk discussions.
  • Lead small teams to success with schedule, budget, and technical execution.
  • Engage in personal technical growth and facilitate technical growth in peers and junior engineers; mentor to mature the organization on the technical front.
  • Travel to Tewksbury, MA;
    Marlborough, MA;
    Andover, MA;
    Woburn, MA; and/or Pelham, NH as required.
  • This 1st shift role is 100% on‑site.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in power generation, power system design, power conversion, power distribution, power sub‑system design and/or control systems.
  • Experience in modeling and simulation using MATLAB/Simulink or similar modeling tools.
  • Experience with safety issues related to working with and servicing rotating electromechanical systems and/or high voltage systems greater than 500 VAC.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Fundamental knowledge of different types of electromagnetic rotating machinery (motors and/or generators).
  • Experience with electric motor manufacturing processes such as stator windings, lamination stacking, stator varnishing, and various insulation classes.
  • Knowledge of synchronous and induction machine design of motors and generators.
  • Electromechanical experience with electric motors and generators, including collaboration with suppliers to identify COTS components and custom modifications as needed.
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Willingness to travel, both domestically and internationally, in support of programs and customers.
  • Hardware development experience in the Department of Defense (DoD) environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead/manage a technical team.
  • Experience generating technical documentation and reports.
  • Knowledge of test and production methods for electronics/power system components.
  • Experience interfacing with procurement and manufacturing as well as external suppliers to ensure proper implementation of product designs.
  • Experience interfacing with DoD customer community.
  • Existing security clearance (DoD Secret).
