Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Hiring Range: $16.88 - $28.01

Under the direction of the appropriate licensed clinician, and in keeping with unit specific standards, provides patient care to meet the personal needs and comfort of patients; and assists members of the healthcare team. In order to become a PCT II a caregiver must meet the full competencies outlined by the Nursing Professional Practice.

As an integral member of the patient care team, serves both internal and external customers including patients, nurses, physicians and other colleagues who support the delivery of care and services.

Major Responsibilities
  • 1. Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients. Examples, but not limited to changes in skin condition, vital signs, and/or mental status.
  • 2. Provides constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse or designee.
  • 3. Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe environment. Works to utilize interventions to de-escalate patients and if unsuccessful participates in restraints in accordance with training and education as directed.
  • 4. Assists patient with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulating, meals and nourishment.
  • 5. Assists in moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients by utilizing proper safety techniques and body mechanics in all work-related activities.
Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities
  • 1. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • 2. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
  • 3. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
  • 4. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • 5. Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients, and visitors.
  • 6. Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • 7. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

Position Qualifications License/Certification/Education

Required:

  • 1. Minimum of a high school education or GED.
  • 2. Current Basic Life Support.
Experience/Skills

Required:

  • 1. Demonstrated competency attainment in the Patient Care Technician I level, work a minimum of 800 hours and at least 6 months as a PCT I. or 6 months of prior inpatient/outpatient direct patient care experience.
  • 2. Ability to read, write and communicate in English in a clear and concise manner.
  • 3. Medical Terminology.
  • 4. Computer skills.
  • 5. Strong interpersonal skills to gather information from individuals, build relationships that support collaborative work within the department and across the organization and provide exceptional service to patients.
  • 6. Must have proven problem-solving abilities for routine situations.
  • 7. Must be able to remain calm when under stress or in emergency situations.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
