Position: Principal Systems Engineer (ONSITE)

Principal Systems Engineer – Strategic Communications

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is a leader in technologically advanced and intelligent solutions for the global aerospace and defense industry. The Strategic Communications team seeks an experienced Principal Systems Engineer to create creative and cost‑effective solutions for ground and airborne systems.

Security Clearance: Active, transferable Secret level clearance required prior to start. U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the development of full lifecycle solutions from CONOPS to Validation.
  • Act as a subject‑matter expert with advanced knowledge of the discipline.
  • Oversee and perform lab activities including definition, setup, configuration management, and testing.
  • Ensure modeling, hardware, and software interfaces utilize a scalable ontology.
  • Oversee and support the integration of solutions within their target environment.
  • Coach, review, and delegate work of lower‑level professionals.
  • Contribute to the development of discipline goals and planning efforts (cost and schedule).
  • Influence others regarding policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Manage moderately sized projects or processes.
  • Manage entrance and exit criteria of design reviews, integration dry runs, and formal qualification testing.
  • Review, moderate, and document major changes in systems or processes to solve difficult and often complex problems.
  • Analyze and document system behavior.
  • Support system trade studies, requirements analysis, and allocation to subsystems.
Qualifications
  • Strong integration and test experience including test procedure development, execution, reporting, and automation.
  • Knowledge of or application of Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products and tasking boards (e.g., Jira, IBM EWM).
  • Active, transferable Secret security clearance required prior to start.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Typically a STEM degree with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in communication radio and systems: SATCOM, LOS/BLOS, AEHF, PTW, or V/UHF.
  • Experience in Environmental Qualification Testing (EQT).
  • Proficiency with CAMEO, Rhapsody.
  • Experience in proposal support including writing Basis of Estimates (BOEs).
  • Experience in system‑level integration, verification, and validation (IV&V) for ground‑based, ship, submarine, or airborne platforms.
  • Experience in virtual machine design and deployment.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) and ability to effectively engage with IPT leaders, engineers, program managers, and customers.

Salary Range: $107,500 – $204,500 USD.
