Major Responsibilities Clinical Practice, Patient Flow, Patient Experience
  • Lead with high reliability principles framework with a goal of zero harm.
  • Maintain a positive work environment that is safe for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Ensure clinical practice and deployment of resources at the unit level to uphold the nursing process and standards.
  • Conduct daily patient care rounds, assessing care requirements and monitoring staff performance to achieve safe, cost‑effective and quality patient care.
  • Direct oversight of clinical practice through continuity of nursing assignments to optimize the patient care plan.
  • Oversee that the nursing process is utilized for each patient and a plan of care is established, coordinated, and delivered to each patient and family.
  • Create and sustain a collaborative, patient‑focused environment supporting excellence in clinical and service practices.
  • Ensure efficient daily operations of assigned units, including appropriate staffing levels, equipment and supplies, bed and examination room management, and workflow to meet patient needs.
  • Implement nursing standards, policies and procedures.
  • Hold multidisciplinary rounds for team lead review of care plans with providers, nursing and ancillary teams.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards including Joint Commission and DPH.
  • Ensure unit‑based standards of care align with departmental, organizational and compliance‑related standards.
  • Maintain and display knowledge of current professional/clinical issues and practices through participation in professional organizations and certification in the field of nursing.
  • Demonstrate and role‑model principles of ethical professional nursing practice.
  • Participate in Nursing Staff Organization, acting as a shared governance model of practice through membership in the nursing leadership council and representing the department in various committees and task forces.
  • Coordinate team huddles during the day and evening to review new admissions, patient progression towards goals and discharge plans; report significant outcomes to the unit director.
  • Be accountable for patient experience outcomes in the designated area.
  • Leadership/Management, Human Resources
  • Responsible for appropriate staffing levels, scheduling, hiring and budgeting.
  • Assess candidates through behavioral and peer interviewing for appropriate positions and make recommendations for hire, transfers, promotions and other staff changes.
  • Partner with Safety Specialists for orientation of new clinical staff.
  • Provide clinical and administrative oversight of all staff and completion of specific performance reviews.
  • Ensure appropriate orientation, competence assessment, in‑service training and continuing education for all staff.
  • Ensure proper documentation for recruiting, onboarding, evaluating and terminating staff is completed timely and thoroughly.
  • Ensure all staff licensing certification is current.
