About the Position

In collaboration with the Chair of Psychiatry, oversees administrative direction, personnel management, budget preparation and monitoring for positive financial performance, and the coordination of emergency/behavioral health practices and procedures. Goals target improvement in patient access/throughput, regulatory readiness, identified quality metrics, financial and human resources management. As a member of the nursing department's senior leadership team, fosters excellence in Nursing Practice through the development of a professional practice environment as outlined in the ANA Scope and Standards for Nurse Administrators, the Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act, and the ANA Code of Ethics.

Responsibilities
  • Oversees daily nursing operations of all adult behavioral health departments within the medical center.
  • Establishes an ongoing communication mechanism with patients, department staff, physicians, and referring community healthcare organizations to achieve established outcomes.
  • Fosters collaborative relationships with all medical center stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with the Chair of Psychiatry as a champion for patient care, quality, and the professional practice of nursing.
  • Participates in Medical Center and Nursing Leadership team discussions regarding strategic planning.
  • Provides fiduciary oversight for all departments.
  • Participates in the development of the capital budget to assure appropriate equipment and technology is available for safe patient care.
  • Collaborates with the Department of Psychiatry Operations to assure development, implementation, and monitoring of Clinical Practice Guidelines.
  • Participates in the Department of Nursing performance improvement program and goals, using evidence‑based metrics to align patient outcomes with the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Serves as a coach/mentor in developing direct reports' careers and personal goals.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates policies, programs, and services consistent with the hospital's mission.
  • Collaborates with Senior Directors and Nursing Professional Development for the development and implementation of behavioral health nursing educational and internship programs.
  • Conducts regular meetings with nurse managers and ensures managers participate in Department of Nursing campus and medical center meetings.
Standard Management Level Responsibilities
  • Directs and supervises assigned personnel, including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training; makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions; resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities.
  • In collaboration with the finance business partner, develops and recommends the budgets for the areas managed and manages activities to assure financial goals are met.
  • Coordinates the assignment of tasks and helps resolve technical and operational problems; evaluates the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved.
  • Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation, fostering the integration of efforts with system‑wide initiatives.
  • Encourages and supports diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
  • Integrates diversity into departmental objectives, such as hiring, promotions, training, and vendor selections.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrates the use of quality improvement in daily operations.
