The Merchant Assistant is responsible for process management, implementing merchandising policies and procedures, and providing analytical support, insights, and recommendations to the merchandise team while learning the long‑range business strategy and tactics associated with the merchandising function.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Function as liaison and point of contact for vendors, merchandise, supply chain, operations and marketing teams to resolve issues and communicate expectations.
• Generate financial reports and analyze data to draw conclusions and provide insights and recommendations to help reach and exceed sales and margin plan.
• Maintain and manage purchase order activity based on established merchandising plans for assigned categories.
• Maintain awareness of merchandise, consumer trends and competitive environment through competitive shopping, price checking, vendor meetings, trade shows, and demographic research.
• Monitor inventory levels and open‑to‑buy positions and create and maintain SKUs to ensure timely and accurate delivery of merchandise.
• Participate in vendor selection process; interview prospective vendors and provide recommendations.
• Perform slow‑turn analysis, review sales and margin performance, and provide recommendations for markdowns and price adjustments based on trends and analyses.
• Plan and coordinate vendor correspondence, vendor meetings, product demonstrations/samples and promotional events.
• Maintain detailed assortment plan, identify issues, and recommend solutions to the merchants.
• Responsible for coupon management and maintaining the advertising plan; review and analyze advertising and promotion results, summarize findings, and present conclusions to the merchants.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in business or operations related field.
• 1–3 years of professional merchandising or retail operations experience.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to multi‑task and work independently in a fast‑paced environment.

This is a hybrid role. Tuesday through Thursday are in‑office days at BJ’s Club Support Center in Marlborough, MA and Monday and Friday are remote days.

In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position: $58,000 – $74,000.
