Automotive Technician, Automotive Mechanic
Overview
A Technician Trainee will be trained and educated to become a proficient auto glass technician. Upon completing our training program, the trainee will receive the Safelite Safe Tech certification and possess fundamental skills necessary for performing unsupervised glass repair, replacement, and recalibrations. The trainee is expected to embody the Safelite Spirit with a can‑do attitude, caring heart, and service mindset while bringing unexpected happiness to customers by completing jobs timely and with the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities- Be paid to learn and apprentice the Safelite way, through hands‑on and classroom training.
- Observe and assist in installing and repairing auto glass.
- Recalibrate automotive safety systems, including troubleshooting and completing diagnostic testing.
- Provide additional services and products as required.
- Study for and pass testing to become a Safelite‑certified Technician, demonstrating proficiency in installations and following taught techniques.
- Safely operate company and customer vehicles, company‑issued tools, and chemicals used throughout the workday.
- Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all company policies and standards.
- Education:
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Preferred but not required. - Valid state‑issued driver’s license. Additional licenses may be required by law.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Physical requirements:
lift and carry up to 35 pounds regularly, occasionally up to 50 pounds; stand for extended periods; work in tight spaces; bend and twist body; work outside in varying weather conditions. - Skills and abilities:
use hand and power tools safely; operate a vehicle per all applicable laws and agree to vehicle‑monitoring technology; work with chemicals safely; maintain professionalism and a passion for customer service; troubleshoot and solve issues independently and collaboratively; use computerized diagnostic tools; read, write, and interpret English; communicate orally and in writing; maintain a professional appearance and adhere to dress and PPE policies;
maintain stable performance under pressure.
- Competitive weekly pay starting at $25.50/hour, increasing to $30.25/hour after training and certification.
- Earn $5 per set of wiper blades added for customer safety.
- Benefits package valued at more than $10,000, including 401(k) with company matching, medical plans, paid time off, holidays, and volunteer days.
- Program to buy additional PTO or sell unused time up to 16 hours.
- Up to $5,250 annually in tuition reimbursement.
- Paid training and all tools and resources needed for success.
