The Radiologic Technologist operates radiographic equipment to produce diagnostic radiographic images according to various physician protocols and performs epidural procedures. In addition to the routine tasks, a Radiologic Technologist assumes responsibilities of designated area(s) and assists other departments when available.
Key AccountabilitiesCompletion of requested x-rays in a timely manner that are of high‑quality.
Essential Duties- Greets and escorts patient to the appropriate room.
- Obtains the patient's history to ensure proper scheduling.
- Asks female patients of childbearing age the date of their last menstrual period and ensures that there is no possibility of pregnancy.
- Prepares the patient for procedures by explaining the exam and answering his/her questions as best as possible.
- Maintains patient comfort and safety while removing obscuring objects from the area of interest.
- Provides radiation protection (shielding / collimation) for the patient, self, and others in accordance with prescribed safety standards of ALARA (including wearing his/her film badge).
- Selects proper technical factors according to the size of the individual patient and produces/develops quality radiographs while using appropriate lead markers.
- Critiques radiographs (density/detail/contrast/positioning/markers/anatomy visible), makes technical adjustments and performs repeats as necessary.
- Along with the pain management team, assists during fluoroscopic procedures (i.e.: epidural steroid injections, hip aspirations).
- Reports equipment problems to department supervisor, office manager, and vendor.
- Participates in training of new employees.
- Maintains safe radiologic practice per standards adapted and implemented by x‑ray quality assurance policies.
- Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of the organization.
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
- Active, valid registration and continued certification through the ARRT.
- New York and New Jersey candidates must have active, valid radiology licensure in their respective states.
- Florida candidates must have active, valid Florida CRT licensure.
- Knowledge of x‑ray procedures and epidural procedures required.
- Ability to operate all equipment and machinery, including processors and computer systems, required.
