The Life Skills Coach improves client well-being and functioning by assisting clinical case manager in the coordination of services that support TRAIL clients. Support services include helping clients
1) master an array of needed life skills,
2) to actively participate in community activities,
3) to provide alternative settings and means to explore clinical issues using direct care interventions based on treatment goals and objectives, and
4) conducting assessments including the Casey Life Skills Assessment.
Position responsibilities include:
- Provides psycho education to TRAIL clients and families, works with school system, employers, and medical and other professionals involved with the TRAIL clients.
- Will complete routine documentation activities.
- Model professional behavior, demonstrate rapport-building and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients and conform to Agency standards and codes of conduct.
- Provide youth with in-person therapeutic support services and psychoeducation that focus on daily living, self-care, relationships and communication, housing and money management, work and study life, career and education planning and permanency.
- Completes Casey Life Skills Assessments for all youth as directed. Implements interventions based on data.
- Implement and documents interventions identified in the treatment plan.
- Educates clients about community resources and provides assistance with linkage.
- Participates in a weekly on call schedule to assist treatment parents in managing crises outside business hours.
- Ensures that all youth have received medical examinations as directed including physical, hearing, vision, dental and any other necessary specialists. Coordinates appointments and transportation when necessary. Educates youth about how to manage all health needs independently.
- Respond to client crisis with prescribed procedures for de-escalation, crisis management and behavior management. Demonstrate a trauma-informed response to clients based on Safe Crisis Management guidelines.
- Communicate observations both verbally and in the client's electronic health record using prescribed formats and terminology.
- Participate in and accept supervision as scheduled with clinical leaders.
- Ensure client health and medical care needs are met according to Bureau of Licensing regulations.
- Ability to support a youth's spiritual and cultural background, gender identity and sexual orientation and practices through culturally competent behaviors.
- Ability to safely drive clients to and from treatment activities contained in the treatment plan.
- Knowledge of youth and adult services systems such as health, education, housing, vocational, and criminal justice.
- Knowledge of child development, family dynamics and the psychological impact of abuse and trauma.
- Knowledge of and ability to implement behavioral and therapeutic interventions in crisis situations

Position is full time and includes the following:

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in a social sciences field, or Associate's Degree in a social sciences field with at least 1 year of experience, or a High School Diploma with 3-5 years' experience providing direct care to youth in a behavioral health agency or institutional setting.
