The Controller will oversee the financial and investment administration and treasury management of a sophisticated, multi-entity family office. This is a high-trust role responsible for managing day-to-day financial and investment functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Buttonwood is seeking a forward-thinking, positive and collaborative individual who will act as a trusted and strategic partner to the senior management team and its Clients. The ideal candidate combines financial, investment, and operational expertise, bringing professionalism, discretion, and a service-oriented mindset to managing our Clients’ complex financial landscape.
RESPONSBILITIES- Develop expertise in the Company’s general ledger, and integrated reporting systems to ensure integrity of transactions and data in a multi-layered ownership environment
- Monitor existing internal controls and develop new internal controls as needed
- Will have both an active and supervisory role in the following functions:
General ledger maintenance;
Preparation of general ledger postings and reconciliations;
Approval of daily cash management activities;
Operating account disbursements;
Credit card program management;
Regular reconciliation of investment accounts - Prepare and analyze standard financial and investment reports for multiple entities, including:
Client net worth reports;
Financial statements and cash flow projections for all Clients;
Financial statements and annual budgets for BCM;
Financial statements for key operating entities; IRR;
Trust accounting reports, including coordination of tax manager review;
Aircraft usage reports;
Ad hoc financial and investment reports - Assist in coordinating processes for personal asset management, including:
Ensuring up-to-date and appropriate insurance for all personal assets;
Assisting with asset sale/purchase transactions;
Maintaining accurate and meticulous records for all personal assets - Identify and assist in process improvement and efficiency initiatives
- Lead and/or assist with additional projects, initiatives, and duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred
- Minimum of 5+ years accounting experience; tax experience a plus
- Working knowledge of accounting systems, relational database concepts and applications, along with other database reporting tools such as advanced Excel skills and Power BI
- Experience in leveraging and maximizing technology solutions to create a highly efficient operational environment
- Superior judgment and comfort level working with confidential, sensitive, and proprietary information, as well as an uncompromised commitment to the highest level of integrity and confidentiality
- Ability to sit, stand and complete work at a computer for prolonged periods of time
- Strong analytical thinker and creative problem-solver with excellent organizational skills
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
- Highly self-motivated, collaborative, and comfortable in a high growth, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment
- Maintains a positive attitude and pro-active, solution-oriented approach
