Our Nestlé Development Center (NDC) in St. Joseph, MO is home to dogs and cats who help us learn and better understand the well-being of pets. When you join us, you'll work to ensure our pets have the best quality of care while participating in cutting edge pet food research. Research that contributes to innovative, first to market dietary solutions as well as trusted all life stage pet food.
Our center is located near the metropolitan area of Kansas City, within 30 minutes of the Kansas City International airport. St. Joseph is a tight-knit, rural community packed with character, still within commuting distance to the city thus, providing many residential opportunities.
As an Animal Behavior & Welfare Supervisor, you’ll serve as a key leader responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of breeding, adoption, behavioral research, and welfare programs. Ensuring alignment between Petcare operations and organizational behavior objectives, you’ll guide program development, compliance, and continuous improvement.
- Develop, maintain, and oversee manuals, standard operating procedures, and behavior related documentation
- Supervise the creation and quality of behavior reports and best management practices (BMPs)
- Oversee adoption and acquisition workflows, ensuring compliance and positive welfare outcomes
- Drive adoption marketing, community outreach, and stakeholder engagement efforts
- Lead the development, testing, implementation, and validation of new enrichment initiatives
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance behavior and welfare outcomes
- Serve as an active contributor to the Global Pet Welfare Pillar
- Supervise professional level team members, providing coaching, performance management, scheduling, and workload prioritization

- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Animal Behavior, Animal Science, Psychology, Biology, or a related field with additional certifications in applied animal behavior or welfare
OR
- Master’s degree in Animal Behavior, Animal Science, Psychology, Biology, Applied Animal Behavior, Animal Welfare, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in animal behavior, welfare programs, applied behavior research, and/or comparable field
- 1+ years of experience leading a team or supervising professional staff is preferred
- 1+ years of experience with adoption systems, breeding/socialization programs, and/or similar animal care settings is preferred
- 1+ years of experience in developing SOPs, leading projects, or managing program improvements is preferred
The approximate pay range for this position is $80,000.00 to $. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location of the position.
