As a Medical Assistant, you’re on the front line of care. You’ve developed the ability to anticipate and respond to patient needs. You provide clinical and non-clinical assistance to physicians, providers and licensed staff in managing patient flow and the environment of care, including answering phone messages, scheduling authorization of procedures and surgeries, deliveries, and stepping in to cover other duties within the scope of non-licensed staff.

Your EverydayGENERAL DUTIES
Clinical
:
Measures and records vital signs, identifies abnormal values, and reports findings to the appropriate nursing staff or medical provider. Assists with patient arrival and departure, schedules new and follow-up appointments, and facilitates a smooth clinic exit. Recognizes emergencies and responds according to organizational policy. Provides for comfort needs of patients, considering age and special needs. Demonstrates working knowledge of clinic equipment, including preparation, safety testing, cleaning and disinfecting between patients and at clinic end per hospital policy.
Maintains linens, supplies and exam rooms; stocks tables appropriately. Properly collects and secures laboratory specimens for testing or transport when necessary.
Documentation
:
Documents appropriately in the patient medical record per departmental guidelines. Navigates the Electronic Medical Record to obtain lab and radiology results, outside medical records, updates patient demographics, and schedules follow-up appointments. Prepares safety reports as warranted or directed by the Clinic Manager/designee. Maintains privacy of patient information by ensuring computer screens are secure when staff are away.
Professionalism and Support
:
Demonstrates honesty, promptness, dependability, courtesy and respect in interactions with patients, caregivers, customers, co-workers and staff. Keeps clinic managers informed of activities, requirements, and problems. Manages patient and/or co-worker complaints calmly and non-judgmentally, and reports issues to the clinic manager daily. Maintains strict patient confidentiality (discuss issues only with appropriate persons and in a secure setting).
Safety and Infection Control
:
Implements standard and transmission-based precautions per hospital policy. Ensures patient safety during clinic visits. Reports safety hazards or violations to the Clinic Manager or designee. Actively participates in Quality Improvement Processes, including QAPI projects and EOC Rounds.
Clerical Support
:
Gathers appropriate clinical documentation for review by the medical provider. Obtains medical records from outside facilities when needed or requested. Scans outside correspondence into the EMR. Answers the telephone and routes calls promptly to the appropriate person.
Minimum
:
High School diploma, GED or equivalent or 2 years of appropriate work experience.
Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
