DescriptionPosition Summary:
The Plant Operator will demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the Refinery process, follow all Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures/policies, observe all written operational procedures, monitor all equipment and processes to ensure operating parameters are within defined operating ranges, troubleshoot and take corrective action when parameters are near or out of defined ranges, report any deviations from Health, Safety, Environmental, and/or Operational parameters, suggest improvements to the Refinery process, and follow the direction of the Operations Manager and Operations Supervisor.
The main emphasis of the Plant Operator position is the successful hour-to-hour operation of the Refinery. The Plant Operator position will function as a member of the Refinery Operations team and will work a rotating shift position as determined by the Company. The Refinery process is a 24/7 operation, so hours may include some holidays and weekends. Occasional overtime is required.
& Essential Job Functions
- Gain the knowledge and skills to effectively operate production units
- Monitor and accurately record temperatures, pressures, and flow rates
- Diagnoses and resolve unit upsets and equipment malfunctions
- Analyze and interpret plant process diagrams
- Ensure proper shift turnover by providing effective written and oral communications to the relieving shift
- Communicate with engineers, maintenance technicians, and other team members to assist in identifying maintenance issues and planning and scheduling maintenance activities
- Perform preventive maintenance
- Oversee permitting of unit maintenance activities
- Ensure compliance with and carrying out all production, maintenance, health, safety, security, and environmental policies and procedures
- Climb ladders, climb stairs, enter confined spaces, lift 50 lbs., and work outside in inclement weather without accommodation
- Ability to take immediate corrective action in the event a potential unsafe act or behavior is observed
- Work at heights including from scaffolding and grating
- Work in a loud industrial environment
- Respond to unscheduled callouts
- Complete all required health, safety, security, and environmental compliance training
- Use proper personal protective equipment
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Certificate or associate degree in Power/Process Plant Technology or equivalent preferred
- One to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to exercise judgment and assume responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people, costs, and/or quality of service within the refinery operations.
