Position: Middle School Social Studies Teacher (Anticipated 2026-2027)

District/Organization: Mar Lee School District
Position/Type: Teacher, full time
Salary: Per MLEA/MLSD  Bargaining Agreement

CERTIFICATION: Appropriate Michigan certification for 6th-8th grade Social Studies, or currently enrolled in an accredited pathway to achieve the required certification.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals and the desire to improve practice.
  • Ability to use and assess student writing and oral explanation as a measure of learning.
  • Ability to use explicit assessments to make instructional decisions.
  • Ability to use alternative/authentic assessments.
  • Interest and ability to create and modify curriculum tools for student learning.
  • Interest and willingness to structure teaching for conceptual understanding.
  • Interest and willingness to integrate students with learning handicaps into general education classes.
  • A strong history of professional growth efforts (experienced teacher) or an expressed philosophy that defines the necessity for a professional teacher to grow and learn throughout a career (beginning teacher).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with team-teaching
  • Experience with pedagogy based on learning theory.
  • Experience with integrated curricula.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instructs pupils in citizenship, school policies, administrative regulations, and procedures of the school district.
  • Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy.
  • Provides learning experiences that develop the basic communication skills, using technology and equipment as appropriate.
  • Provides individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil’s needs.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  • Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth.
  • Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies; maintains required inventory records.
  • Creates an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Administers group-standardized tests in accordance with district and state testing programs.
  • Maintains CA60 files and other records in accordance with district procedures and policies.
  • Communicates with parents and school staff on pupil progress.
  • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Maintains professional competence through professional development activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional development activities.
  • Maintains an auditable record of pupil attendance and performance with legends of clarity.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building administrator.
