Assistant Plant Manager – Blue Oval Battery Park, Michigan

The Assistant Plant Manager is the COO of the plant, responsible for taking full accountability of plant operations and culture aligned with Ford’s leadership core values of Excellence, Focus, and Collaboration and a servant leadership mentality.

Responsibilities
  • Use entrepreneurial skills and a team mindset to develop data‑driven solutions.
  • Build and lead an agile team to deliver advanced technology that drives the future.
  • Create a culture of trust, encourage diversity of thought, and foster leadership in others.
  • Be part of the historic transformation of the automotive industry.
  • Leverage data and insights to drive lean improvements that meet cost and quality targets.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve processes and outcomes, leveraging KPIs and the PDCA model.
  • Hold self and others accountable for excellence and operational expectations.
  • Effectively collaborate with Area Managers, Supervisors and Team Members.
  • Develop leaders as teachers and prioritize ongoing development and evaluation of employee performance.
  • Lead implementation of the Ford Production System aligned with lean principles and behaviors.
  • Lead transformation and change management efforts to advance the company’s competitiveness.
  • Evolve concerns/risks and recognize achievements.
  • Serve as partner to the Plant Manager and change agent driving results and leveraging relationships.
  • Establish and operationalize a local vision and mission through clear goal‑setting and communication.
  • Ensure operational stability by implementing disciplined processes and standards to meet key metrics.
  • Strong problem solver who can lead effectively under pressure and manage crisis situations.
  • Manage costs and resources responsibly for the betterment of the plant.
  • Show self‑awareness and deep understanding of employee aspirations, strengths, and well‑being; engage regularly on the plant floor (80% of time).
  • Partner with the Plant Manager to build a positive and inclusive culture through diverse viewpoints and mutual respect.
  • Foster collaboration on best practices, standardized work, and cross‑functional networks.
  • Demonstrate empathy and Gemba, engaging regularly with employees to listen and problem‑solve.
  • Lead by example and inspire through authentic communication.
  • Maintain high energy and effort on all tasks.
  • Work full flexibility across all standard, operating, and rotational shift schedules, including day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in an engineering or technical field.
  • 5+ years of progressive responsibilities and experience in operations leadership.
  • Extensive experience in high‑volume, complex manufacturing environments.
  • Expertise in lean, kaizen, and FPS.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic understanding of managing a Profit and Loss statement, demonstrating strong financial acumen.
  • Experience successfully leading a manufacturing function and directly overseeing 50+ hourly employees.
  • Track record of building trust and rapport with employees and stakeholders, creating a positive and healthy culture.

4. Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate’s skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility, and competitive market value.
