NATURE OF POSITIONThe Health and Information Services Paraprofessional provides dual support to building-level health, library/media, and technology services under the direction of the building principal or designee. This position assists with routine health office functions, provides library resource support, and serves as a first-line technology resource for students, ensuring continuity of services and a safe, well-organized learning environment. The role requires sound judgment, confidentiality, and the ability to interact effectively with students, families, and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS- Associates Degree; OR 60+ credit hours from a degree granting college/university
- Ability to receive a substitute permit from the State of Michigan (2.5 GPA or higher)
- Knowledge of basic first aid, health assessment practices, and medication administration procedures
- Familiarity with basic device troubleshooting, account management, and school-based technology systems
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of student health and educational records
- Proficiency with standard office technology and ability to learn district-specific software systems
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact effectively with students of all ages, parents, and staff
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Maintain a general interest in helping children in their educational process
- Calm and patient demeanor

Health Office Responsibilities- Provide first aid and basic health screenings.
- Administer medications in accordance with district policy, physician orders, and applicable Michigan law; maintain accurate medication logs and authorizations.
- Assess and respond to student health complaints; contact parents/guardians or emergency services as appropriate.
- Monitor students with known health conditions (e.g., asthma, allergies, diabetes) and follow individualized health plans (IHPs) or emergency action plans as directed.
- Maintain confidential student health records in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and district policies.
- Coordinate with the district’s contracted school nurse for case consultations, complex student health needs, and required health reporting.
- Track and communicate immunization compliance records to families and building administration.
- Maintain health office supplies, equipment, and a clean, organized clinical space.
- Assist students and staff with locating, checking out, and returning library materials; manage circulation using the district’s library management system.
- Support students in developing research, digital literacy, and information evaluation skills.
- Shelve, process, and maintain library materials; assist with inventory and weeding of the collection.
- Support students in using reference tools, databases, and educational technology resources.
- Maintain a welcoming, organized, and inclusive library environment.
- Serve as a first-line technology resource to students, providing Tier‑one support for common device and account issues.
- Assist students with signing into technology devices, including:
- Provide the student with their account username/email address.
- Perform a reset of the account password, when necessary.
- Activate or reactivate the student account, when necessary.
- Assist students with Tier‑one device inquiries, including:
- Verify that the device is charging as expected.
- Verify that the device powers on as expected.
