OverviewSummary:
Staff Development and Infection Control (RN) serves as the coordinator of an Infection Prevention program and coordinates and provides total nursing care for residents, providing supervision and guidance to clinical staff in relation to Infection Prevention and Control.
- Coordinate Infection Prevention and Control activities within the facility.
- Collect, analyze, and report infection data and trends to nursing staff and healthcare practitioners.
- Consult on infection risk assessment, prevention, and control strategies.
- Provide education and training and implement evidence-based infection control practices, including regulatory and licensing requirements and CDC guidelines.
- Oversee surveillance system elements: standardized definitions, surveillance tools, rounds, identification of at-risk populations, data analysis, outbreak detection, and feedback of results to primary caregivers.
- Ensure infection control reports describe infection types and are used to identify trends and patterns.
- Summarize observations of staff practices, investigations of infection causes, and identification of underlying infection trends.
- Define data collection frequency and methods for surveillance.
- Monitor practices to ensure consistent implementation of infection prevention and control policies based on current standards.
- Share surveillance reports with appropriate leaders, including the director of nursing and medical director.
- Review antibiotic use and monitor standard precautions as the primary strategy for preventing healthcare-associated transmission.
- Plan containment of outbreaks while considering resident and staff needs.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Valid license in the state employed.
- Valid CPR certification.
- Two years of nursing experience preferred with training in Infection Control.
- Skilled in directing and motivating the workforce.
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively with residents and families and at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
