Field/Service Technician, Installation Technician
The purpose of this position is to perform advanced level installation, maintenance and repair on electronic equipment associated with Minnesota’s Allied Radio Matrix for Emergency Response (ARMER) communications system and the Minnesota’s Roadway Weather Information Systems (RWIS). ARMER system maintenance includes mobile and portable radio installations and programming, tower lighting controller repairs, tower shelter environmental systems, DC battery systems and network equipment.
RWIS provides real time road and weather information from over 125 statewide monitoring sites and provides essential data to snowplow operators, NOAA, and MnDOT’s 511 public information system. RWIS system maintenance may include but are not limited to Humidity Sensors, Wind Speed/Direction Sensors, Precipitation sensors, Visibility sensors, Pavement Sensors, routers, switches, cameras, mother boards and backplanes.

Two-year minimum certification in electronics OR equivalent work experience as described in the bullets below:
- Knowledge of standard practices and procedures used in the repair, installation, and maintenance of a wide variety of electronic equipment sufficient to ensure effective and efficient operation of advanced equipment with limited supervision or outside technical direction.
- Knowledge of fault isolation tools, techniques, and equipment.
- Knowledge of computer hardware, software, network operating systems, and capabilities sufficient to program and diagnose network equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret detailed technical information sufficient to carry out electronic installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Ability to communicate written and oral technical information sufficient to provide to others in the repair, maintenance, and installation of advanced electronic equipment.
- Skills in troubleshooting techniques and handling sensitive electronic equipment and parts as well as a mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity are required.
- Knowledge of data base and data management concepts.
- Valid (Class
D) driver’s license.
