Whatyou’ll do
The employee will be part of the Automation group supporting the manufacturing of Medium and Low Voltage Cable. This role provides technical support in PC and PLC based controls and automation for improvement projects and production support, including off-hours support on a rotating basis for optical fiber manufacturing.
Principle Functional Responsibilities- Develop and maintain PLC and HMI programs used by production and facilities to control manufacturing processes and support equipment.
- Provide controls and automation support for the manufacturing of optical fiber.
- Instruct, assist, and mentor members of the electrical team.
- Refine processes related to electrical safety and equipment efficiency.
- Inspect, repair, adjust, install, and maintain electrical systems including calibration of electronic instrumentation systems.
- Modify, rebuild, repair, or overhaul electronic and electrical equipment and controls.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions using electronics principles and restore equipment to operation.
- Support the commissioning of new equipment for production.
- Ensure proper backups of all programs and critical support files per plant standards.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
- B.S. in Engineering or Computer Science, or Associate/Technical degree in Controls, Automation, Mechatronics; or 5 years of hands-on experience
- Excellent planning, communication, and organizational skills
- Detail oriented with proven analytical, problem identification and resolution skills
- Ability to contribute to the team’s culture of continuous process changes/improvements
- Ability to work with little supervision
- Comply with all applicable safety procedures and ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 HSE guidelines
- Demonstrated capability of results through people, technology, and process
- Experience working with highly automated systems or processes (manufacturing experience is a plus but not required)
- Experience programming PLCs such as Rockwell (Allen-Bradley), Modicon, Siemens, or comparable platforms
- Experience in IEC programming languages including Ladder, Sequential Function Charts, Structured Text, and Function Block Diagrams
- Experience with Profibus, Ethernet and Modbus+ communication protocols
- Experience in programming SCADA software with PC-to-PLC and PC-to-database transactions
- Experience in programming servo drives and motion controllers
