Position: Maintenance Contract Inspector - Marshall, TX

Overview

Maintenance Contract Inspector - Marshall, TX. Join the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) as a Maintenance Contract Inspector to help keep Texas moving. The Atlanta District is seeking a Maintenance Contract Inspector (General Engineering Tech I) to oversee key aspects of infrastructure maintenance in Marshall, Texas.

Responsibilities
  • Process damage claims efficiently and accurately
  • Inspect various routing maintenance contracts
  • Manage data entry and reporting through Site Manager
  • Monitor and track traffic control budgets
  • Conduct thorough bridge inspections to ensure safety and compliance
  • Administer maintenance and/or bridge inspection record-keeping activities
  • Review and coordinate with maintenance supervisors/area engineers on monthly and final estimates, field changes, supplemental agreements, extra work orders and revised estimates of quantities
  • Inspect barricades and ensure compliance with barricade standards
  • Inspect construction and routine and non-routine contract maintenance methods and workmanship to ensure compliance with plans and specifications
  • Inspect traffic control devices and their placement at construction sites for compliance with specifications and safety regulations
  • May train other employees; oversee complex maintenance contracts and traffic control plans
  • Coordinate traffic control plans with law enforcement and Public Information Officer; monitor lane closures and document changes
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Experience: 4 years in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent).

  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commercial Driver’s License
Knowledge
  • Applicable inspection methods, procedures and techniques
  • Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance
  • The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
  • Basic traffic management and control procedures
Skills
  • Performing calculations to include material and labor estimates, expenses, technical survey data and engineering calculations
  • Preparing and maintaining confidential and sensitive records, files, and reports
  • Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
  • Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Subject to extreme cold and heat; exposure to noise and vibration
  • Required to wear protective gear (respirator, hard hat, etc.)
  • Lift up to 20 lbs occasionally; frequently lift or carry up to 10 lbs
  • Stooping, bending, reaching, standing, walking, and long-distance travel between sites
  • Must be able to report for duty on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations
  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions; random drug testing may apply
  • The Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulation applies to this role
