Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Machine Operator
MUST HAVE verifiable work experience as a CNC Machinist
Responsible for performing machine set-ups, programming and repair to CNC Lathes and Vertical Mills.
Core Responsibilities- Technical Interpretation:
Analyze complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD/CAM files to understand the precise specifications and tolerances required. - Machine Setup:
Install and adjust cutting tools, attachments, and work holding fixtures (like chucks and vises) for specific production runs. - Programming & Editing:
Upload CNC programs and perform real-time edits to G-code and M-code to optimize cutting speeds, feeds, and tool paths. - Production Monitoring:
Oversee machine operations, adjusting controls manually if the programming is inaccurate or if the machine malfunctions to prevent defects. - Quality Inspection:
Verify the accuracy of finished parts using precision measurement tools like micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure they meet standards within thousandths of an inch. - Maintenance:
Perform routine preventative maintenance, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn cutting inserts, to ensure machine longevity.
Skills & Qualifications
- Math Proficiency:
Strong knowledge of shop math, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, for calculating dimensions and angles. - Mechanical Aptitude:
A deep understanding of how machine tools (mills, lathes, grinders) work and the properties of different materials like steel or aluminum. - Attention to Detail:
The ability to maintain intense focus for long periods to meet extreme precision requirements. - Analytical Thinking:
Skills to diagnose mechanical errors or programming "bugs" and find immediate solutions. - Education:
Typically requires a high school diploma followed by vocational training, an apprenticeship, or a trade school certificate. - Technology:
Proficiency with CAD/CAM software is considered a plus.
Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
