TxDOT's Atlanta District is looking for an Equipment Mechanic I or II based in our Marshall Maintenance Section in Marshall, TX. At TxDOT, we supply the diagnostic, hand, and power tools you need to get the job done, so you will not be required to provide your own tools. This position also includes networking with other sections mechanics, division mechanics and vendors to be able to achieve the most efficient repairs to TxDOT's equipment.

Equipment Mechanic I, A16, $40,918 - $61,130 annually
Equipment Mechanic II, A18, $45,521 - $71,055 annually
TxDOT reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Position Description
Equipment Mechanic I Performs repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in the Fleet Operations Division Shop or a District Maintenance Section. Work may require maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in construction of highways/bridges and inspecting work performed by contracted vendors. Work may require contact with other governmental agencies and private contractors. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments, however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Equipment Mechanic II Performs advanced repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in the Fleet Operations Division Shop or a District Maintenance Section. Inspects work performed by shop mechanics and/or contracted vendors. Work may require maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in the construction of highways/bridges. Work may require contact with other governmental agencies and private contractors.
Employees at this level perform independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties:
Equipment Mechanic I
Adjusts brakes and replaces brake system parts to include air brake and anti-locking systems. Analyzes and interprets computerized diagnostic equipment information. Check lighting and wiring mechanisms to ensure proper functioning of headlights, spotlights, tail lights, and parking lights. Completes repair order paperwork and accurately enters data into fleet information management system. Maintains and repairs heavy equipment used in construction and maintenance of highways/bridges.
Performs preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on motor vehicles/equipment; as required, moves items related to these activities. Prepares vehicles for use by checking for required safety features such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and mobile radios. Troubleshot, tests, and repairs electrical systems, electronic ignitions, and fuel injection systems. Uses computerized diagnostic analyzer systems and performs complex diagnostic work on vehicles/equipment.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Equipment Mechanic II Includes all essential duties listed for Equipment Mechanic I as well as:
Performs quality assurance/analysis on repaired vehicles and equipment. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
