Utility Construction Inspector - Mi-Tech Services, Inc.

Marshalltown, IA

Mi-Tech is a full-service engineering, design, and construction services firm providing comprehensive support for utility and infrastructure projects from planning through execution.

Position Overview

The Utility Construction Inspector is responsible for inspecting and monitoring utility construction projects involving natural gas, electric, telecommunications, and municipal infrastructure. The inspector ensures compliance with safety regulations, approved plans, specifications, and applicable federal, state, local, and company standards while serving as a third‑party representative for the utility or facility owner.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect and monitor utility construction activities to verify adherence to safety regulations and project specifications.
  • Review and assess construction plans, specifications, and utility maps.
  • Identify and document potential safety and quality issues, making recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with contractors, utility owners, and project teams to resolve on‑site issues.
  • Maintain detailed field reports and documentation using electronic reporting systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and company standards.
Qualifications
  • Experience or knowledge in natural gas, electric, telecommunications, or municipal utility construction is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of utility safety practices, excavation standards, and damage prevention requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and utility maps.
  • Comfortable working independently in the field and navigating multiple locations daily.
  • Proficiency with mobile technology and electronic reporting systems such as ArcGIS Survey
    123 and/or Field Maps is preferred.
  • Experience with GPS instruments such as Trimble and/or Topcon is preferred.
