Financial Manager, Accounting Manager
Plant Controller

Salary: $80,000–$100,000 + bonus
We are seeking a hands-on Plant Controller to manage the financial operations of our manufacturing facility in Marshalltown, IA. This role is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, driving cost transparency, and providing strategic insights to support operational efficiency and growth. The Plant Controller reports directly to the CFO and will lead the accounting team.
Must-Have Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
- 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with exposure to cost accounting principles
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, and internal controls
- Experience with ERP systems and audits
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
- Professional certification (CPA, CMA, or MBA)
- 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience
- Lead, manage, and develop the accounting team, ensuring accountability and performance
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure all transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with GAAP
- Monitor cost and inventory accounting, investigate discrepancies, and implement improvements
- Develop, implement, and enforce strong internal controls to safeguard company assets
- Act as primary liaison for external auditors, ensuring a smooth audit process
- Collaborate with operations leaders to prepare detailed budgets and provide financial guidance
- Conduct financial analysis on production costs, labor efficiency, scrap rates, CAPEX projects, and other operational metrics
- Lead cost accounting initiatives, including standard cost development, variance analysis, and inventory valuation
- Support strategic decisions with financial modeling, capacity planning, and ROI analysis for equipment and process changes
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities across manufacturing operations
- Ensure accurate and timely financial data for corporate, property, and sales/use tax filings
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function and manufacturing operations
This is a hands-on leadership position in a stable manufacturing environment where you will play a critical role in financial management, operational efficiency, and strategic growth. You will be a key business partner to operations, providing insights that directly impact the company’s success.
