House Supervisor is responsible for the supervision, direction, and coordination of nursing practice and all hospital activities to maintain continuity of effective communication, public relations, management; and patient services. The House Supervisor shall represent Hospital Administration and shall be designated as the officer in charge utilizing the administrative person on call when necessary. Manages the day-to-day operations of their direct reports, utilizing quality, cost effective patient care principles.
Supervises, supports and develops staff members. Collaborates with physicians, providers, and other health care workers, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care while maintaining professional nursing standards.

- Direct, coordinate, and delegate patient care activities; serve as acting manager/administrator in the absence of leadership

- Lead, coach, evaluate, and develop staff through hiring, orientation, education, performance feedback, and formal evaluations
- Resolve complex operational issues including patient concerns, crises, and staff performance matters; conduct unit rounds and staff check‑ins
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care, manage bed placement, admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Oversee emergency response, disaster activation, incident command, and hospital‑wide operations during assigned shifts
- Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and confidentiality requirements
- Communicate effectively with medical staff, administration, and external agencies to support patient care and hospital operations
- Identify improvement opportunities, cost‑saving strategies, and short‑and long‑term operational solutions to meet patient care goals
Required:
- Associates or Diploma in Nursing
- Satisfactory performance for 3 years in recent clinical experience
- Current license in the state of Iowa or meets criteria established by Iowa Board of Nursing
Preferred:
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing/Nursing Administration or its equivalent
- Satisfactory performance for 5 years in recent clinical experience with 3 of those years in a supervisory position
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal relationships, and concern in assessing needs of patients, families and team members.
- Ability to apply principles of supervision to achieve hospital and nursing administration goals.
