Surgical technologists are integral to the surgical care team, assisting in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care aligned with Sanford’s mission of quality and service excellence. They work under the authority of a surgeon or other licensed clinical professionals, ensuring safe and effective conduct of invasive and non‑invasive procedures, maintaining a sterile field, accounting for instruments, and supporting anesthesiologists and surgeons throughout operations.

Responsibilities include preparing the operating room, verifying instrument trays, performing aseptic techniques, identifying and resolving equipment issues, documenting supply usage, and participating in safety and quality activities.

• Graduate of an approved school of surgical technology or an accredited practical nursing program as an LPN.
• Experience in an operating room setting preferred.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical/surgical terminology, instrumentation, aseptic technique, and surgical procedures.
• National certification as a Surgical Technologist preferred.
• Valid, unencumbered LPN license in the state, or multi‑state licensure privileges.
• BLS certification required within the first 60 days.
• Completion of annual continuing education units and competency training required.
• For North Dakota, UAP registry registration required if not an LPN.
