Job Summary

Performs diagnostic computed tomography (CT) scan images. Produces quality CT exam images and exercises professional judgment in the performance of procedures. Provides for patient care and initiates life support measures as necessary. Interacts effectively with patients, physicians, family members, department staff, and healthcare workers.

Possesses the skills and knowledge to operate CT equipment to produce quality CT scans, perform related procedures and protocols, learn and utilize new technology, and orient new employees. Professionally obtains information from patients or their responsible parties to improve personalized treatment and care.

On a continuum, the CT Technologist works to develop an understanding of the patient’s physical and emotional status and works well with all age groups.

Sanford Rural Network Facilities sites may expand job responsibilities based on the needs of the facility, including, but not limited to, on‑call rotation nights, weekends, and holidays. Performs diagnostic radiology procedures, basic diagnostic radiology tasks, is aware of general radiology protocols, and may perform mobile imaging, electrocardiogram (EKG), cardiac monitor placement, and dual energy x‑ray absorptiometry (DEXA) procedures.

Qualifications
  • Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic Technology training in an American Medical Association (AMA) approved school or Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT) accredited program is required.
  • Computerized Tomography (CT) training or experience preferred.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification is required at the time of hire.
  • Per Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence (DICOE) and American College of Radiology (ACR) accreditation requirements, CT certification obtained within two years is preferred.
  • If working in North Dakota and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy procedures, licensure through the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (NDMIRT) Board is required.
  • If working in Aberdeen, South Dakota, CT certification is required within 24 months of hire.
  • In the state of Iowa, all technologists must have a permit to practice through the Iowa Department of Public Health in order to practice in the state of Iowa.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and I.V. certification within six weeks of employment and re‑certification as necessary is required.
