Job SummaryProvides independent consultation services to physicians, other physicists and staff regarding the medical use of radiation. Onsite position in our Marshfield location. Oversees the use of radiation in diagnostic imaging and/or radiation oncology for the Sanford system to ensure safety and compliance with professional accreditations as well as state and federal requirements. Utilizes knowledge of physics and technology as a resource when consulting with physicians and other physicists.
Possesses a high level of understanding of radiological fields and provides training to staff. Functions as a resource for other physicists in the use of radiation in medicine.
- Implements advanced imaging and/or treatment technologies and clinical services.
- Researches new treatment techniques, modalities to support strategic planning and solves complex clinical problems.
- Designs or uses computer simulations to model physical data so that it can be better understood and applied to clinical problems.
- Direct testing and monitoring of radioactive material and radiation‑producing machines.
- Conduct application evaluations for new software and hardware products prior to routine use.
- Master’s degree in physics, biophysics, medical physics or radiological physics.
- Three years’ experience working in a diagnostic radiology/nuclear medicine department responsible for equipment testing and quality control/quality assurance.
- Board certified.
- Acceptable certifications:
American Board of Radiology in Diagnostic Physics, Diagnostic Medical Physics, Diagnostic Radiologic Physics;
American Board of Medical Physics;
Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine or related certification board. For radiation oncology physicists:
American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Physics, Therapeutic Medical Physics, Therapeutic Radiologic Physics;
American Board of Medical Physics;
Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine or related certification board.
