Associate Scientist plans, coordinates, implements and conducts independent scientific research including complex laboratory testing, experiments and analysis following established protocols.

Responsible for budgetary implication of the assigned research project. Organizes and conceptualizes ideas leading to proposals. Writes technical summaries and publications. Prepares and makes formal presentations of research results.

Analyzes and evaluates findings. Typically depends on established grant funds for terms of employment. Originates and writes research proposals of sufficient quality to obtain significant financial support from external sponsors. Considered the principal investigator on grants. Established as co-author or senior author of proposals, journal articles and technical reports.

High level of knowledge in scientific research processes, procedures, and objectives. Possesses ability to implement experiments in the subject discipline with the ability to trouble shoot issues. Good knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline required. Possesses ability to run complex pieces of equipment requiring advanced specialized training. Possess knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analysis.

Significant experience in analyzing and evaluating data. General level of knowledge of project management, decision-making, and analytical skills. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a research group or team.

Sanford Research is a multi-site institution and occasional local travel between sites may be required.

• Requires a doctorate degree in a clinical, health, or life science field.
• Minimum of six years post-doctoral experience in related subject field of study. Equivalent to Associate Professor. Competitive publication record for rank and discipline.
