Position Summary
Supports plant operations by performing physical and chemical analysis on raw materials and food products from various stages of the manufacturing process as directed by the Quality Manager/Supervisor and provides assistance to the operations team. Accuracy, reliability, and expediency are essential to the successful completion of the duties of a Laboratory/QA Technician.

Essential Functions

  • Perform chemical and physical analyses (including flavor checks) on product, ingredient, and control samples according to laboratory procedures. Need to understand the concepts of each analysis, anticipate the result and follow through on any deviation.
  • Records all product analysis according to laboratory protocols including data entry on a computer system.
  • Weigh up ingredients that are less than a pound for production.
  • Communicates effectively all critical information regarding analyses, procedures, and test results. Handwriting must be clearly legible.
  • Communicates effectively all critical information electronically to customers as requested by the Quality Manager/Supervisor.
  • Prepare product sampling materials.
  • Must clean and maintain all equipment/materials used while keeping the laboratory clean and organized.
  • Follows all laboratory GLP and plant GMP and safety procedures according to company guidelines.
  • Provides written reports as requested.
  • General plant QA responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): the collection and distribution of products and all environmental samples. Collection of all ingredient samples when requested by the management team.
  • Covers all essential functions of the Laboratory/QA Technician and other possible assigned responsibilities during the absence of the Quality Assurance Manager/Supervisor.
  • Assists production on their assigned shift with any quality-related questions or is directed to contact QA management staff if necessary.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • After completion of four weeks of training, must be able to perform all procedures accurately, precisely, and efficiently.
  • Must adhere to the accuracy limits outlined in Company SOPs (existing, new, and any subsequent revision).
  • Required to have good attendance.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty independently and satisfactorily.
  • Tests must be run correctly and accurately.
  • Duties must be executed in a timely manner.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Must be able to work independently – to organize tasks and manage the workload.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
  • Must be able to do mathematical calculations.
  • The laboratory will be staffed on off shifts and weekend/holiday/overtime hours may be required due to the variable nature of our business.
  • Must be able to work on their feet for extended periods of time. Will be required to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • The plant environment involves working in noisy, wet, slippery, and hot conditions.
