Experience in titrating drips, including heparin and occasionally nitroglycerin, bivalirudin, Cardizem, and insulin
Description:
The unit consists of 29 beds.
Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 mon diagnoses and types of patients include orthopedic trauma, vascular, urology, neuro-spine, OBGYN oncology, and acute medical cases.
Registered nurses are required to titrate drips following a prescribed nomogram.
Telemetry technicians monitor the telemetry 24/7; registered nurses are not required to read strips.
A charge nurse is present on all shifts and takes an assignment.
There is a house supervisor on all shifts.
Nursing assistants are available, with varying ratios throughout the day and night shifts.
Respiratory equipment on the unit includes CPAP, BIPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy; vents are not available.
Registered nurses may be required to float to other adult medical/surgical nursing units.
Shifts for registered nurses include , , and .
Weekend requirements include working every other weekend.
Holiday requirements involve working every other holiday.
Scrubs should be clean and professional in any color.
Unit-specific orientation includes one day of computer training and one to two days of precepted floor orientation.
