The Trauma Surgery Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care to critically injured patients in the emergency, operative, and intensive care settings. The PA/NP works collaboratively with trauma surgeons, emergency physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to evaluate, stabilize, and manage acute trauma cases and support recovery.
Responsibilities- Perform rapid and comprehensive assessments of trauma patients in the emergency department and ICU.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests including labs, X-rays, CT scans, and other imaging studies.
- Assist in surgical procedures and trauma resuscitations as appropriate.
- Manage preoperative and postoperative care, including wound management, pain control, and monitoring for complications.
- Coordinate patient care transitions, including transfer to rehabilitation or other care facilities.
- Provide patient and family education on injury, treatment plans, and recovery expectations.
- Participate in trauma rounds, multidisciplinary case conferences, and quality improvement activities.
- Document all assessments, interventions, and patient progress accurately and promptly.
- Adhere to trauma protocols and guidelines to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Participate in trauma research and continuing education to maintain clinical competency.

Qualifications- For Nurse Practitioners:
Completion of a master’s, post-master’s, or doctorate from a nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission; current state licensure for advanced practice. - For Physician Assistants:
Completion of a master’s or baccalaureate degree, and a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA); successful completion of the national certifying examination and current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. - Current DEA permit to prescribe controlled substances.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association within three months of hire.
- Additional department-specific certifications, licenses, or memberships may be required.
