American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position at a Level II Trauma Center requiring a minimum of 2 years ICU experience and prior travel nursing experience.
Requirements- Active WI or Compact RN license required by start date
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS — all must be active
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience required
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation required
- Two professional references required: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience
- Work setting is a 16-bed Medical ICU (3N MICU) in an acute care hospital
- Patient population includes respiratory, stroke, neuro, GI, cardiac, and other high-acuity diagnoses
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, with 1:1 assignments for higher acuity patients
- RNs are required to titrate a high volume of drips including propofol, precedex, vasopressors, and all standard ICU drips
- RNs must read their own cardiac monitor strips and be proficient in rhythm interpretation
- Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 and supports the use of vents, BiPAP/CPAP, vapotherm, trachs, and nitric
- Attending coverage includes two pulmonologists each leading a team of residents during the day, with one team on at night
- Charting is done in Cerner (transitioning to Epic);
Cerner experience is required - 12-hour variable day and night shifts (0700–1930 and 1900–0730)
- Weekend requirement is every other or every third weekend based on scheduling needs
- Rotating holiday coverage required
No on-call or standby requirement - Travelers are first to float to like units or serve as a patient observer within the hospital
- 13-week contract
- Level II Trauma Center environment
- One CNA is available per unit shift to support nursing staff
- No charge nurse assignment — the charge nurse does not take a patient load
- Orientation consists of one day of hospital orientation followed by two days of unit-specific orientation
- Self-scheduling is available, though travelers are last to input their hours and block scheduling cannot be accommodated
- No specific scrub color required; clean and professional attire expected
- Former permanent staff of this health system must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration, and hospital approval is required
- Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which affects the travel pay rate
